Program Overview

A moment from the FAP 28 pageant. A dark-skinned person with curly hair wearing a purple FAP shirt sings into a microphone while other FAP students dance in the background.

FAP is a whirlwind week-long introduction to the arts at Harvard. Produced by the Office for the Arts with the Dean of Students Office, the program is led by Dana Knox and Dara Badon with the assistance of a team of undergraduate proctors.

The program is broken up into two sections. The first several days are spent in workshops and masterclasses with professional resident artists representing 7 fields (Creative Writing, Dance, Drama, Film, Music, Studio Arts, and Theater Design), as well as social events and tours of arts spaces on campus.

For the second half of the program, each student chooses an arts thread to focus on (headed by that thread's resident artist and two of the student proctors) and we shift gears to creating an hour-long arts performance, called the Pageant, completely from scratch. The Pageant is put up at the end of the program as a celebration of what the students have learned over the week and as their debut into the Harvard arts community!
